Morning Devotion

[11/15, 8:11 PM] faithemm2015: *OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL*

“Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: For the drunkard and glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.”
Proverbs 23:20

Proverbs 23:1-3,

1 Corinthians 10:31

1. When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee;

2. And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.

3. Be not desirous of his dainties; for they are deceitful meat.

31. Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

I have often heard people say that you are what you eat.

This is a wise saying because what you eat can affect who you are – both physically and spiritually. If you eat food that makes your body weak such that you are always lethargic and cannot pray or study your Bible for long hours, your spiritual strength will be low.

If on the other hand, you eat organic and healthy food, not only will your body be strong, you will also soar spiritually because you can spend long hours praying and studying your Bible.

It may interest you to know that the devil also uses food to recruit people into secret societies. That is why it is not expedient to eat at every occasion you attend.

Before you eat anything that is offered to you, whether in public or in private, make sure you pray on it first and ask God for permission.

John 6:11 says:

“And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.”

One day while I was preaching, I saw a woman dash out of the hall and some ushers ran after her. She then was brought to me after the service.

She said while I was preaching, her clothes caught fire so she had to run out. Many years before that incident, she had gone to see a white-garment prophet because she had been losing all her children.

Eventually, she met the prophet’s wife who, upon hearing the woman’s problems, gave her a kolanut to eat.

From that night, she started finding herself in meetings whenever she slept at night, eating human meat with some other people.

Eventually, it was her turn to provide the meat and she was asked to submit her children – the same ones whose lives she was trying to protect in the first place.

We prayed a simple prayer that day and when she got home, she excreted a dead snake. Thus, God rescued her from the deadly kolanut.

Mind what you eat and drink.

Pray before you eat, drink or even take a snack. Mind what you eat.

Acts 1-3

1. Nearer, my God to Thee,
Nearer to Thee;
E’en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee, (2ce)
Nearer to Thee!

2. Though, like the wanderer,
The sun gone down,
Darkness be over me,
My rest a stone,
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee, (2ce)
Nearer to Thee!

3. There let the way appear
Steps unto heaven;
All that Thou send’st to me
In mercy given;
Angels to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee, (2ce)
Nearer to Thee!

4. Then with my waking thoughts
Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise;
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee, (2ce)
Nearer to Thee!

5. Or if on joyful wing
Cleaving the sky,
Sun, moon, and stars forgot,
Upward I fly,
Still all my song shall be,
Nearer, my God, to Thee, (2ce)
Nearer to Thee!

*The Holy Spirit and You*

*Text:* John 14:16-17
_”And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”_

The Holy Spirit is mentioned about 90 times in the New Testament. While God the Father was seen to be more active in the Old Testament, with Jesus mediating between the Old and New Testaments, we live in the dispensation of the Holy Spirit.

*# The personality of the Holy Spirit #*

*He has a WILL*
I Corinth 12:11 says, _”But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.”_

Acts 13:2, _”As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”_
(Matt 10:20, John 16:13, Jeb 3:7-11)

Acts 5:32, _”And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”_ (Acts 15:28)

Matt 12:31, _”Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.”_ (Acts 7:51, Eph 4:30)

John 16:13, _”However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.”_(Acts 5:3-4,9)

[11/15, 8:11 PM] faithemm2015: *Above Only Devotional*

Sunday November 15

*Growing in Our Understanding of How God Operates 2*

John 14:6-7, 1 Cor.12:31 & 1 Cor.13:1-2 (NIV)
*Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also:…*Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way. *If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.*

Yesterday, we focused on how the Holy Spirit helps us understand and walk in the ways of God. One major aspect that the Holy Spirit wants to help you understand is who Jesus is and the things that He has done for you. The Bible refers to Jesus as the perfect reflection or express image of God the Father, Heb.1:3a. This is why God told Peter that Jesus is His Beloved Son with whom He is well pleased and He asked Peter to listen to Jesus, Matt.17:5. The Holy Spirit wants to reveal Jesus to you and He wants to reveal Jesus in you, Gal.1:16a. He wants to transform you from glory to glory into the image of Christ as you focus on the glory of Christ, 2Cor. 3:18.

Let the revelation of Christ fill your heart (Col.3:16) and when you study the scriptures and see Jesus, see yourself in Him, doing what He is doing. See the things He has done for you as your reality. As you do so, the wisdom of Christ fills your heart and causes you to know and walk in God’s ways.

God is love and God operates by love. Everything that you do in your life must be motivated and directed by the love of God. The more you receive the love of God into your life, the more you will be able to practice or manifest it to others.

The Bible says that faith works by love, Gal.5:6. Our faith must be energized by the love of God and we must express God’s love to others as a sign of our faith in God and the life of God within us (1 John 3:14, Eph.1:15). The Bible confirms that “…the fruit of the Spirit is love…”, Gal. 5:22a. As you yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit, He will cause you to grow in the nature of God’s love in you and He will help you manifest more of God’s love to others.

Heavenly Father, I ask that you reveal Jesus to me and reveal Jesus in my life. By the Spirit, cause me to manifest your love to others also.

_*Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee (Genesis 17:5).*_

Whatever name you answer has a direct bearing on your destiny; your name gives meaning to your destiny. This explains why God changed the names of certain individuals in the Bible in line with their destinies in Him. A good example is Abraham, who was formerly named Abram. Abram meant exalted father or assumed father. In the process of time, he had no child, though many servants were born in his house.

But one day, the Lord spoke to him and said, _*“… behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee”*_ (Genesis 17:4-5). Abraham believed God, and immediately started answering the name Abraham, “the father of many nations.”

Another important example is Jacob; he was named Jacob because at birth he held on to his brother’s heel. Jacob means swindler or deceiver; and true to his name, he deceitfully obtained his brother’s birthright, with the aid of his mother.

However, when he encountered the Lord and asked to be blessed, He wouldn’t bless him until his name was changed from Jacob (the deceiver) to Israel, a prince with God (Genesis 32:28); and his destiny was transformed for good.

Consider the Apostle Peter; before he came to Jesus, he answered the name, “Simon,” meaning a reed shaken by the wind, unstable. As Simon, he was inconsistent. But one day, Jesus said to him, _*“…thou art Peter,*_ (Greek: Petros) _*and upon this rock*_ (Greek: Petra) _*I will build my church…”*_ (Matthew 16:18).

If the meaning of your name isn’t consistent with the Word of God, you’ve got to change it. It makes no difference that you’ve answered the name all your life; if its meaning isn’t consistent with the revelation of who you are in Christ, respond to God’s Word and change it as an act of faith.

*Blessed Father, thank you for your Word that reveals my identity, inheritance and abilities in Christ! Your will for my life is unveiled to my spirit and I live daily to fulfil your will and purpose for my life, taking paths that you’ve pre ordained for me, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.*

**Genesis 32:24-28*
And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. 27 And he said unto him, What [is] thy name? And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

*Matthew 16:16-18*
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

[11/15, 8:11 PM] faithemm2015: What it takes to win

Sunday 15th November 2020

‘I run with purpose in every step.’ 1 Corinthians 9:26 NLT

Whether it’s in the world of sports or the Kingdom of God, all winners exhibit these five traits:

(1) Self-awareness. Winners are honest about their strengths and weaknesses. The Bible says, ‘The Lord searches every heart…If you seek him, he will be found by you’ (1 Chronicles 28:9 NIV). In prayer you see yourself as you are. As you read God’s Word, you begin to see yourself as you can be. (2) Focus. Wherever you are today, be there – because that’s where God is. People who spend their lives ‘waiting for their ship to come in’ are usually disappointed, or die on the pier. Winners live in the present moment. They refuse to be in one place while their mind is in another. (3) Confidence. Winners overcome anxiety by keeping their eyes on the goal. As they get closer, their confidence increases. Jude writes, ‘Dear friends… build yourselves up’ (Jude v. 20 NCV). This is something you must do for yourself, and do daily through prayer and God’s Word.

(4) Toughness. Winners sacrifice the present for the future. They’ve learned to say no to indulgence and yes to discipline, because to them the prize is worth the price. Paul writes: ‘Like an athlete I punish my body…training it to do what it should, not what it wants’ (1 Corinthians 9:27 TLB). (5) A game plan.Winners recognise that talent alone isn’t enough; you need a plan to live by. So, have you discovered God’s plan for your life? Are you living by it? If not, talk to him about it today. It’s one of the most important conversations you will ever have.
