[11/23, 6:31 AM] 919063: The Holy Spirit is your ‘helper’

Saturday 23rd November 2019

‘The Helper…will teach you all things.’ John 14:26 NKJV

Jesus said, ‘The Helper, the Holy Spirit…will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you’ (John 14:26 NKJV).

So the Holy Spirit has these two functions: (1) He teaches you how to walk with God. (2) Hereminds you to do it each day. As redeemed children of God, we constantly need to be taught how to walk with him, and to be reminded of the blessings that await us when we do and the trouble we get into when we don’t. If you’ve raised kids, you know the routine. They have to be taught their ABCs so they can read and write; then they have to be reminded until they master it. They have to be taught to walk, and falling down hundreds of times is just part of growing up. The Bible says, ‘A righteous man may fall seven times and rise again’ (Proverbs 24:16 NKJV). Just as you don’t tell your child, ‘Forget it, you’re never going to learn to walk,’ your heavenly Father doesn’t give up on you either. Your child had to be taught personal hygiene and cleanliness. Likewise, the Holy Spirit will remind you of the importance of reading God’s Word each day. Jesus said, ‘You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you’ (John 15:3 NKJV). And the psalmist wrote, ‘How can a young man [and an older one too] cleanse his way? By taking heed…to your word’ (Psalm 119:9 NKJV).

If you’re wise, you’ll start each day by praying, ‘Holy Spirit, teach me what I need to know, and remind me of it throughout this day.’

A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones. Proverbs 14:30

READ: Psalm 15:1-5
1Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill?

2 He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.

3 He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.

4 In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

5 He that putteth not out his money to usury, nor taketh reward against the innocent. He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

It is one thing to look clean on the outside, it is another thing to actually be clean inside and outside. To be clean within has a lot of advantages, while to be inwardly clean has dire spiritual and physical consequences, one of which is mentioned in today’s memory verse. When you are clean from within and your heart is devoid of evil, you will enjoy good health with clean life from within is revealed in our Lord’s teaching in Mark 7:20-23, which says:

“And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.”

In line with the Lord’s teaching, we further learn from today’s Bible reading that only those who walk uprightly and righteously can fellowship with God. They are those who speak the truth from their hearts, and not those whose hearts bring forth deceit and all forms of wickedness.

What type of heart is considered to be clean in God’s sight? A clean heart is one that has been circumcised and washed by the Blood od Jesus Christ. The heart of a natural man is generally wicked (Jeremiah 17:9). This is the reason why every person needs to surrender his or her heart to Jesus Christ for cleansing. The Lord has promised to give us a new heart and a new spirit when we come to Him (Ezekiel 36:26). The blessing of a clean heart is declared in Psalm 73:1, which says:

“Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart.”

When God is good to you, your case is settled. David knew this, and so he prayed this prayer in Psalm 51:10,

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

Beloved, I am using this medium to introduce you to the One who alone can clean you in and out. That person is Jesus Christ. All you need to do is to surrender your life to Him. Going to church without actually surrendering your life to Jesus is an exercise in futility. Let Jesus come into your heart today, so that He can do the proper cleansing that will qualify you to be a child of God. He is standing at the door of your heart, knocking and waiting for you to let Him in (Revelation 3:20). Receive Him today, and you will be happy you did.

Ask the Lord to create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Psalm 17-20

Obadiah 1

1. Have you been to Jesus for the cleansing pow’r?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Are you fully trusting in His grace this hour?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

o Refrain:
Are you washed in the blood,
In the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless? Are they white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

2. Are you walking daily by the Savior’s side?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Do you rest each moment in the Crucified?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?

3. When the Bridegroom cometh will your robes be white?
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?
Will your soul be ready for the mansions bright,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb?

4. Lay aside the garments that are stained with sin,
And be washed in the blood of the Lamb;
There’s a fountain flowing for the soul unclean,
Oh, be washed in the blood of the Lamb

SCRIPTURE: But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat,”nor with the wine which he drank”: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:8

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Those who stand out in life stand on standards; when principles are weak,”influence will be weak.

Principles in this context refer to a set of rules or beliefs governing a person’s behavior. They are fundamental truths or guidelines that regulate one’s behavior or conduct.

Principal people are principled people. It was principle that made Daniel to reject the sumptuous delicacy of the king of Babylon. Daniel also refused to succumb to the king’s decree against praying (Daniel 6″:11-12).

Being principled is a fundamental requirement for greatness in life and destiny. However,”not many are willing or able to imbibe the discipline of living a principled life. The shortage of principle is the reason for the scarcity of principal people on earth today. The stronger your value the more valuable you will be on earth.

Why is it that no one wants to adhere to the advice of a thief or a harlot? It is because they lack principles. A drunkard for instance, has no voice on earth.

Those who stand out in life stand on standards. When principles are weak, influence will be weak.

Get this”: Principled people are always attracted to principled people. Integrity attracts integrity. So,”a smoker, or a gossip should not be comfortable around you.  Your rigidity should be an indictment on their carnality; your discipline should rebuke their carelessness.

Beloved, to become a principal person in life, you must be a person of strong principles.

REMEMBER THIS”: Those who stand out in life stand on standards; when principles are weak,”influence will be weak.

1. Read the account of Daniel in the Scripture

2. Make up your mind to be a person of principle like Daniel.

3. Avoid the company of the unprincipled and embrace the company of the principled.
