[2/11, 5:48 AM] 919063: Show compassion (3)

Tuesday 11th February 2020

‘Having compassion for one another.’ 1 Peter 3:8 NKJV

Compassion means ‘to enter into another’s passion’. How can you do that? You might, for example, find out why the other person is so stressed or depressed. What’s preoccupying them, why do they feel so passionately, and how can you enter into it? Or maybe a friend has been diagnosed with an illness, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis or cancer. What should you do? Maybe your brother or cousin is planning a high-end wedding or has bought a new home in an upscale neighbourhood. Perhaps an associate just got promoted and the rest of their co-workers are envious and resentful. Attitudes are fickle at best – and outright ugly at worst. But the person who got promoted is beaming, so enter into their passion and beam with them! Maybe someone you know just lost a loved one and you don’t know what to say. Don’t say anything; just ‘be there’! The Bible says, ‘Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep’ (Romans 12:15 NKJV).

In other words, if someone is hurting, hurt with them, and if they’re happy, be happy for them. Enter into their passion – that’s how you showcompassion! In an effort to look holy, sometimes we come across as harsh and insensitive.

Here’s how Paul addressed this very issue: ‘Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves…clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience’ (Colossians 3:12 NLT). Some of us have to work harder at this than others. But there’s no opt-out clause: ‘All of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another’ (1 Peter 3:8 NKJV). That includes you!

[2/11, 5:49 AM] 919063: Today’s SOD – 2020-02-10

SCRIPTURE: For David,”after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep… Acts 13″:36a

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Ensure that you glorify God in everything you do.

In those days,”there was a man called Elvis Presley, ‘the king of rock’ as he was called. He was raised in church. I once listened to his recorded performance of the Christian hymns”: Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art with his deep baritone voice combined with amazing vocal effects; it was awesome and impactful. But afterwards,”he drifted and handed himself to the devil; he started singing songs that glorified the devil. Consequently, he died on drugs; Elvis Presley faded away in shame because he decided to glorify the devil with his potential.

Michael Jackson also grew in church, sang in church, but after a while, he was lured into the world. He began to glorify the devil with his potential and he died miserably.

There are many people today who are glorifying the devil with what was graciously given to them by God. How could a person use the voice that Jehovah gave him for the worship of His Name, to sing immoral songs glorifying the devil? Why would God give you voice, wisdom, graces, etc., and you use it to celebrate His enemy, satan, the devil? How would you stand before God in Judgment?

There are people who have the gift of making people laugh but they are making unclean jokes. Some of the jokes are full of lies. You do not need to tell lies to make jokes; there are clean, healthy humours that can make a heart merry and do good like medicine.

Beloved, ensure that you glorify God in everything you do. Never use your God-given gift to the glory of the devil or for ordinary entertainment without impacting lives positively. Ensure you can defend how you use your potential before God.

REMEMBER THIS”: Ensure that you glorify God in everything you do.

1. Ask for mercy if you have ever used your potential to glorify the devil or promote the kingdom of darkness.

2. Channel your gifts and potentials towards making positive impact on earth and glorifying God.

3. Refuse to bow to the pressure of glorifying the devil with your potentials no matter the money,”fame or promises involved.

PRAYER: Lord,”my life, resources and potentials are all Yours. Use me for Your glory, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

QUOTE: Once you can conquer yourself,”you can conquer your world… When you are defeated by yourself, you can be defeated by anyone and anything. Culled from 21 FOOLISH THINGS PEOPLE DO by Dr Paul Enenche.

AMAZING FACT”: Octopuses can taste with their arms.

TODAY IN HISTORY: 10/02/60 AD: St Paul thought to have been shipwrecked at Malta but there was no loss. During his stay at Malta,”God used him to convert and heal Publius’ father of a serious fever, and he (Publius’ father) later became the first Bishop of Malta.

DON’T FORGET TO ATTEND”: The Healing and Deliverance Service by 9:00am tomorrow. Invite someone. God bless you as you do so.

PROPHETIC WORD/DECLARATION: Receive the grace to bring maximum glory to God in your lifetime in Jesus’ Name.

*Grow in the Knowledge of Your Completeness in Christ*

_2 Peter 1:3-4 (NLT), Colossians 2:10_
_By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. *And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power._

God has given you everything that you need to live a complete and godly life like Him. In Christ, you have all of God’s fullness. Nothing is missing. You are so full of God that you have the ability to manifest His character and nature. In the Living Bible, Colossians 2:10a says, “so you have everything when you have Christ, and you are filled with God through your union with Christ…” The New International Version says, “And in Christ you have been brought to fullness…”

Our first text above shows us that God has given us His very great and precious promises so that we can partake of His divine nature and escape the corruption in the world that comes through lusts. The promises of God are already our reality in Christ, 2Cor. 1:20. It is not in the future that we will partake of God’s divine nature and escape the corruption in the world. We are partakers of God’s nature right now. We have escaped the corruption in the world. It happened when our old life died with Christ (Eph. 2:4-6) and a new being was raised up with Him. This new being is one with Christ, 1 Cor. 6:17. It carries the life and nature of God like Jesus does, Rom. 6:4. This means you have God’s nature of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, Gal. 5:22-23. Many times the devil and our flesh will tell us that we do not have these things in us but let God be true and let all else be liars. We walk by faith and in the Spirit and not by sight or our senses. Every time we accept the devil’s lie, we are cheating ourselves from walking in God’s fullness. For every dimension of God’s character you desire to see manifest in your life, start by thanking God that you have that character in you because of Christ.

Prayer Focus: Thank God for His fullness that you have in Christ Jesus. Declare that you have love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control in you. Rejoice in this truth.
