TOPIC: THE NECESSITY OF PRAYER AND FASTING
SCRIPTURE: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit,”and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Ephesians 6″:18
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The hour of prayer is the hour of power.
There are two things that happen in the human body without ceasing: the beating of the heart and the breathing in and out of air,”except in death.
This is the same way prayer and fasting should be to the believer. 1 Thessalonians 5″:17 says,”pray without ceasing. This means, pray like you breathe; pray unceasingly like your heart beats. The meaning is”: prayer,”just like faith, is the livewire of the saint.
Now, why is this so? I will give you two reasons”:
1. Prayer and fasting is doorway to the supernatural.
In Acts 3:1,”it was at the hour of prayer that Peter and John encountered a crippled man who was lame from his mother’s womb. Power was applied on the man and the spirit of paralysis was instantly electrocuted and he was healed. The hour of prayer is the hour of power. Supernatural power answers to the key of prayer. Every decadence in prayer results in a bankruptcy of power. When the prayer altar begins to decay, power begins to escape.
2. Prayer and fasting is the principal tool for the nullification of the agenda of hell against the church. Matthew 16″:18 says,”I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail; which means the gates of hell will always attempt, the only thing is that they cannot prevail. And it does not prevail because of the force of prayer (Acts 4″:29-33).
Now,”what are the keys to effective praying and fasting?
1. Maintaining a private, personal praying and fasting schedule.
It is called a consecrational prayer and fast. Peter did this in Acts 10″:9-10 and then God opened doors for him.
2. Participating in corporate praying and fasting.
This is joining forces with the brethren to pray (Acts 12:5). It is good to pray on your own but it is important to pray with the saints. These two must be combined together to produce very dangerous effect against the powers of hell.
REMEMBER THIS: The hour of prayer is the hour of power.
1. Pray always; that is,”without ceasing
2. Endeavour to have a fasting schedule to include fasting at least once in a week
PRAYER”: Lord,”I consecrate my life totally to You. I make demands on the mantle of intercession and the grace for supplication. I receive it Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

[5/17, 6:54 AM] Pastor Emmanuel Oshevire: MESSAGE FROM:
*Rev. Anthony Akinmoyo,*
Lifeway Christian Centre,
FOCUS: *UNDERSTANDING THE LEADING OF THE LORD.*
d. *The Voice of the Holy Spirit.*
John 16:13 (KJV)
*Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.*
Jesus said the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth; it means into the will of the Father concerning our lives. He shall take or hear from the Father and reveal to us.
The Holy Spirit does this assignment in three different ways:
i. Inward witness
ii. Inner voice
iii. Still small voice.
The Holy Spirit is in our spirit and He speaks from there into our spirit. When He brings heavenly information to our earthly issue, it will not be as a result of mental exercise but the thought will be flashing through your mind. It is a quiet assurance in your heart. Whatever step you want to take in life, look out for quiet assurance of peace in your heart. I am not talking about logical reasoning or mental information but an impression into your heart.
There are things I just know without knowing how I got them. In recent time, whenever my mobile phone rings, I just have the knowing of who is on the other side, despite the fact that I have the same ringing tone for everyone in my contact. He brings information of who is about to call or who is on the line. The same applies to many other issues of life. He preempts me.
Acts 27:9-10 (KJV)
*Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them* , *And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives.*
Apostle Paul said “I perceive…” He did not say the Spirit said or that He had revelation. He perceived via inner witness, not mentally or physically. In fact, the weather condition was naturally or physically good for sailing.
Acts 27:13 (KJV)
*”And when the south wind blew softly…”*
That means there was no sign of danger or trouble, but the Holy Spirit spoke to His spirit, that was what gave birth to the perception and knowing. You just know that you know it.
Acts 10:19 (KJV)
*While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.*
Romans 8:14, 16 (KJV)
*For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.* *The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:*
The Holy Spirit picks information and revelation from the Father and Son, then speaks it into our spirit. He speaks on the inside. The Holy Spirit passes the Father’s message into our spirit by inward witness, inner voice and the still small voice. We need to really train ourselves to understand our spirit. Spiritual maturity means you have good understanding of what your spirit is communicating to your soul.
*Prove all things.*
1 Thessalonians 5:21 (KJV)
*Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.*
The scripture admonishes us to prove all things. We have seen in our earlier studies that there are many voices in the world and all are significant. You are not to follow all the voices that speak to your spirit. Many have been misled through strange voices. We will quickly look at some scriptural indicators of the Holy Spirit’s leading through His voice.
Psalm 85:8 (KJV)
*I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.*
When God is leading you by His Spirit, He will fill your heart with unspeakable peace. God will not speak worry and anxiety into your heart. Worry and anxiety are voices of the devil, the flesh and circumstances. To prove that it is God that really speaks, check the peace in your heart. Our Lord by His Spirit is using peace to direct and govern our lives.
Please whatever step or journey you want to make in life and you don’t have peace, don’t do it.
Colossians 3:15 (KJV)
*”And let the peace of God rule in your hearts…”*
Whenever you don’t have peace, it’s an indication of an impending danger.
B. *Prove all by the Word of God.*
The Holy Spirit is the author of the word of God and He will not speak anything contrary to it. Whatever the Spirit of God speaks must be in agreement with the word of God. For instance, you hear a voice that tells you that you should put away your wife because of an error she made, you have to check it with the word of God. The voice says *”put away”* but the word of God says *”the Lord hates separation and divorce.”* It is then clear that it is not the Holy Spirit that is speaking. Please do not accept anything without examining it against the word of God. No matter how wonderful the revelation is, please cross check with the word of God, if it is contrary to the word of God, trash it; for the scripture cannot be broken.
1. Thank you my Father for the gift of another day.
2. Thank you Father for your mercies upon my life.
3. Psalms 119:162 (KJV) *I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil.*
Thank you my Father for the daily supply of your word to me.
4. Thank you my Lord for your unspeakable joy in my heart.
5. Isaiah 30:21 (KJV) *And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.*
O Lord my God, cause me to hear and understand your voice always in Jesus mighty name!
6. O Lord my Father, let your voice guide me continually in the mighty name of Jesus!
7. John 10:27 (KJV)
*My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:*
O Lord my God, grant me spiritual understanding to always discern your voice in Jesus mighty name!
8. John 10:5 (KJV)
*And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him..*
i. O Lord my God, empower me not to follow strange voices in Jesus mighty name!
ii. I refuse to follow the voice of strangers in Jesus mighty name!
iii. I refuse to follow worldly voices in Jesus mighty name!
iv. I refuse to follow the voice of the devil in Jesus mighty name!
9. 1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV) *”But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection…”*
I receive strength to rule over my flesh in Jesus mighty name!
10. Isaiah 43:19 (KJV)
*Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.*
O Lord my Father, do marvellous things in my life, family, career, ministry in Jesus mighty name!
11. My Lord and my God, let your hands be visible in my life in Jesus mighty name!
12. Let my life continue to bring glory to your name in Jesus mighty name!
13. Isaiah 60:11 (KJV)
*Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought.*
O Lord my Father, let the gates of greatness be opened unto me in Jesus mighty name!
14. Isaiah 54:12 (KJV)
*And I will make thy windows of agates, and thy gates of carbuncles, and all thy borders of pleasant stones.*
Proverbs 4:18 (KJV)
*But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.*
O Lord my God, turn my favour doors to favour gates in Jesus mighty name!
Thank you Father for working exceedingly and abundantly above all that I ask or think.
Thank you my Father for uncommon results and answers.
Receive my thanks and praise in the mighty name of Jesus!
See you tomorrow,
Rejoice and rejoice always.

THEME: THE SURE FOUNDATION
2 Timothy 2:19 “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”
READ: Matthew 7:21-27
7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
I cannot overststae the importance of the word of God in the life of a believer. Romans 10:14-17 emphasizes this and also reveals the need of preachers in the world today. We need witnesses so the faith of people can be built on the sure foundation of the word of God.
Today, while some preachers minister as oracles of God; others do so as orators teaching human philosophy and traditions of men. Paul warned against this in 1 Timothy 1:4,7 and Titus 1:14. Today’s memory verse tells us clearly why we must be careful of any teaching that does not warn against sin. Such is not from God.
Living by this foundation keeps you from sin. Today’s Bible reading has many lessons for us. First, it is wisdom to walk according to the word of God. Some people will say the Bible is too old to offer solutions to the present world issues but what did Jesus say concerning the word of God? He said “For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one title shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled (Matthew 5:18). There will be trials and persecutions against your faith. However, God’s word is a sure anchor. Jesus assures that a house built on the sure foundation of the word of God shall stand. It is foolishness to equate the word of man with the word of God. The word of man has no sure foundation, therefore, any house built on human philosophy will crumble in the face of storm.
Beloved, are you building your house on the solid and infallible word of God or on the sandy soil of the ideology of man? Think about it now and take a decision to walk only by God’s word.
Decide that from today, you will be more devoted to studying the word of God and living by it.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Psalm 26, 40, 58, 61, 62, 64
AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE
HYMN 30: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
1. When we walk with the Lord
In the light of His word
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey
Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.
2. Not a shadow can rise,
Not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt nor a fear
Not a sigh nor a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.
3. Not a burden we bear,
Not a sorrow we share
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief nor a loss,
Not a frown nor a cross,
But is blest if we trust and obey.
4. But we never can prove
The delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favour He shows,
And the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.
5. Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do
Where He sends we will go
Never fear, only trust and obey.
