Morning Devotions

[8/27, 9:31 PM] New laout: CAN A CHRISTIAN DRINK ALCOHOL?
When a European Airline was initially launched, an educated Christian gentleman was traveling in the first class section.
An air hostess approached him with a complimentary drink, this was an alcoholic drink, but the man politely refused.
The air hostess returned but this time brought the drink on a platter, designed to appeal and impress. However, the Christian man again politely refused, explaining he doesn’t drink alcohol.
The air hostess was concerned and informed the manager. The manager approached the man with another platter, now designed with flowers. He questioned, “Is there something wrong with our service? Please enjoy the drink, it is a complimentary offer.”
The man replied, “I am a Christian and I do not drink alcohol? The manager still insisted that the man take the drink. Then, the Christian proposed that the manager should give the drink to the pilot first. The manager stated, “How can the pilot drink alcohol, he’s on duty! And if he drinks there are all chances for the plane to crash”.
The Christian passenger with tears in his eyes, replied, “I am a Christian and I am ALWAYS on duty in order to protect my FAITH and if I Drink Alcohol I will crash my whole life here and hereafter. I AM 100% ON DUTY!”
Maybe yours might not be an alcohol, it may be tempting you for sex as it was done to Joseph, battling with how to control your anger, profane and vain babblings, your dressing , your attitude towards people and finally not sharing the Word.
Do you know that souls are dying because of those reckless behaviours of ours?
WE ARE 100% ON DUTY

*THEME: REPACKAGED SEXUAL IMMORALITY.*

*MEMORISE:*
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
Colossians 3:5

*Bible Reading: Matthew 5:27-29*
27 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.

*MESSAGE:*
Today’s Bible reading reveals a unique characteristic of the New Covenant taught by the Lord Jesus Christ. Under the old covenant of the Mosaic Law, a person could not be accused of sexual immorality, such as fornication or adultery, unless he or she was caught in the act by at least two or three weaknesses. This was the strong basis on which the scribes and Pharisees called for the execution of the woman caught in the sin adultery in John 8:2-11. John 8:4-5 says:

“They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?”

Those who follow the Lord’s teaching with an open heart will understand His answer to this question posed by the scribes and Pharisees. Indeed, Jesus came not to condemn but to redeem those under the yoke of sin. Nevertheless, His standard says that one can be guilty of sexual immorality even without sleeping with someone other than his or her spouse. In fact, according to Jesus, one need not be caught in the act of immorality before being declared guilty of it. By the lord’s standard, what is referred to in common parlance as “mere looking” is enough to be adjudged to have committed sexual immorality! This is food for thought for us in the Body of Christ today. When we promote the lust of the eyes by allowing immoral dressing in the church, we are actually exposing members of the Body of Christ to sexual immorality, even when they don’t engage in the act physically. A member of the choir dressed seductively to lead praise and worship will definitely leave the congregation worse off than before they came to church. This is not a question of legalism but following divine principles established by the Lord Himself.

The sin of sexual immorality and perversion is prevalent in the world we live in today because of the ease of access to the virtual world of the internet, where pornography is common place. Nowadays, people can have a voice or video chat with a member of the opposite sex a world away, committing all manner of immorality with them. In the world today, we even have the perversion called sex dolls of various makes and models meant to further promote a terrible kind of self-delusion. In a nutshell, Satan and his agents have devised various ways of luring people into sexual immorality without having any contact with a real human being. As children of God living in this perilous times, we must not become victims of these evil. As instructed by our Lord in Matthew 5:29, we must be ready to give it all it takes to mortify our bodies to sexual immorality. You need to “pluck out your eye”, represented by internet websites, TV programmes and social and social gatherings that make you susceptible to sexual immorality internally. May God honor your sincere efforts by giving you strength of character in your inner man in Jesus’ Name.

*ACTION POINT:*
Pluck out the eye of sexual immorality by cutting off links to things and people who make you vulnerable to it.

*HYMN 2: OH JESUS I HAVE PROMISED*
1. O Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me,
My Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be my Guide.

2. Oh, let me feel Thee near me;
The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle,
The tempting sounds I hear;
My foes are ever near me,
Around me and within;
But, Jesus, draw Thou nearer,
And shield my soul from sin.

3. Oh, let me hear Thee speaking,
In accents clear and still,
Above the storms of passion,
The murmurs of self-will;
Oh, speak to reassure me,
To hasten, or control;
Oh, speak, and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul.

4. O Jesus, Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory
There shall Thy servant be;
And Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Oh, give me grace to follow,
My Master and my Friend.

5. Oh, let me see Thy footmarks,
And in them plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly
Is in Thy strength alone.
Oh, guide me, call me, draw me,
Uphold me to the end;
And then to rest receive me,
My Savior and my Friend.

TOPIC: THE FORCE FOR CHANGE

SCRIPTURE: By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians assaying to do were drowned. Hebrews 11:29

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The limit of your faith determines the limit of your change.

A study through the Book of Hebrews Chapter Eleven confirms that faith is the supernatural force with which supernatural changes are effected. If a person desires a change in any realm of life,”the force that is needed to effect that change is faith.

The woman with the issue of blood needed a change in her body, so she pressed through the crowd by faith saying that if she could touch the hem of Jesus’ garment, she would be made whole. And by that force of faith, a change was inevitable (Mark 5″:28-29).

Beloved,”take note of the following key facts”:

a. The limit of your faith determines the limit of your change. If you need your life to change more than it is,”your faith must move higher.

b. The limit of your faith is the limit of your progress. If you want to see progress in the area of power with God, finance, or marriage, you need more revelation and understanding that will fuel your faith in that direction.

I see great and positive changes coming your way today as you shift in faith, in Jesus’ Name.

Remember this”: The limit of your faith determines the limit of your change.

ASSIGNMENT(S):

1. Company with God in order to acquire the Faith-Character of God.

2. Make the study of God’s Word a priority.

PRAYER: Lord,”baptise me with the Spirit of faith. I refuse to doubt Your Word concerning my life. Thank You for the fulfilment of Your Word in my life, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

[8/29, 6:30 AM] 919063: God has promised to be with you

Thursday 29th August 2019

‘As I was with Moses, so I will be with you.’ Joshua 1:5 NIV

The Bible says, ‘After the death of Moses…the Lord said to Joshua…”Moses my servant is dead…get ready to cross the River Jordan into the land I am about to give to [you]”‘ (Joshua:1:1-2 NIV ). Joshua knew Moses was dead, and Israel knew it too. So why did God remind him? Because Joshua wasn’t just following a leader, he was following a legend. Moses had been Israel’s security blanket for forty years. He was the quintessential go-to guy. He led an entire generation out of 400 years of captivity in a single night. He parted a sea with the wave of a stick. He prayed and God rained down bread from Heaven each day. When the nation was about to die of thirst, he struck a rock and water filled canteens. By any measurement, Moses was a massive success. But why? Was it his ingenuity? His creativity? His genius? No, it was the presence of God in his life. But now Moses was gone, and for Joshua that was bad news. But the good news was that God remained. ‘No one will be able to stand up against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you’ (Joshua 1:5 NIV).

You say, ‘But that’s an Old Testament promise.’ Then read this: ‘For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God’ (2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV ).

Today, God has promised to be with you. Believe him!

*Grace not to Focus on the Negative Attitudes of People*

_Psalms 106:32-33 (GNB), Genesis 50:20-21 (GNB)_
_At the springs Of Meribah the people made the LORD angry, and Moses was in trouble on their account. They made him so bitter that he spoke without stopping to think. *”You pIotted evil against me, but God turned it into good, in order to preserve the Iives of many people who are alive today because of what happened. You have nothing to fear. I will take care of you and your children.” So he reassured them with kind words that touched their hearts._

If Joseph had allowed the negative attitude of his brothers and the negative attitude of Potiphar’s wife to affect him, he might not have fulfilled God’s purpose for his life. Pharaoh’s butler forgot Joseph in prison for two years; after Joseph interpreted his dream and pleaded with him to remember him. Men may maltreat you and forget you, but God will always love and remember you. Sometimes, you may feel like Hagar felt as Sarah rejected her and Abraham drove her away. God will never reject you. He will sustain you like he did Hagar, Gen. 21:9-20.

Stop judging God’s attitude to you by the reaction of people to you and stop allowing what people do to you to weigh you down. Elijah was depressed and wanted to stop living because of Jezebel’s threat, 1 Kings 19:2-4. Sometimes, we will feel like Jesus felt when He was on the Cross. We will be tempted to cry and ask questions like “my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Focus on the joy and glory of God that lies ahead and despise that shame and endure that cross, Heb. 12:2. Do not be distracted by trying to seek vengeance or justification before men. Do not be quick to get angry and bitter. Bitterness in your heart will trouble you and defile many (Heb. 12:14-15), and that is what the devil wants. Forgive them for they know not what they are doing. Imagine how Potiphar’s wife must have felt after God lifted Joseph. Focus on God’s great love and His presence with you. Get up, dust yourself and move on in God’s will and plan for your life.

Prayer:
Father, I receive your grace to focus on your love, presence and plans for my life and not on the negative attitudes of people.
