_DATE: THURSDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER 2019_

*THEME: NURTURE, DON’T DISCARD*

*MEMORISE:*
_And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord._
Ephesians 6:4

*Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 22:1-2*
1 _David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him._

2 _And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men._

*MESSAGE*
Three vital ingredients are necessary to make every parent successful in the task of nurturing children as precious gifts from God. These are knowledge, understanding and godliness. Unfortunately, many people who are privileged to be parents do not have what it takes to effectively fulfill their responsibilities. Parents need the type of knowledge that is found only in God’s word to carry out their parental responsibilities in line with God’s expectations. Speaking on the significance of children in our lives, Psalm 127:3 says:

” _Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward._ ”

Parents need to understand that through procreation, God gets His reward for all the care He has bestowed on them from the time they were born! In other words, because of human reproduction, God does not need to repeatedly go through the process of moulding clay to create new generations of worshippers that He desires. Children are God’s reward, so nobody should attempt to share His glory with Him over them. Parents must stop “playing God” over their children; rather, they should nurture them to meet God’s expectations, according to today’s memory verse.

Our Bible reading tells us an interesting story of “abandoned children”, who were once social miscreants, identifying with a man who had the heart of a father to take them in. It is equally interesting that this man, David, was also a fugitive. He was on the run because a jealous king wanted to kill him. David did not discard these boys; rather, he nurtured them to become useful for themselves, their families and the society at large. In Nigerian street parlance, he became the “area father” of about four hundred “area boys” who became soldiers for the nation of Israel when he became king. Here is a roll call of a few of them and their exploits in 2 Samuel 23:8-10:

” _These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time. And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away: He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the Lord wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil._ ”

From their example, let us learn to nurture and train our biological and spiritual children to the point of fulfilling their destinies. When we develop them like David did to the abandoned vagabonds, they will go on to become useful assets for God and humanity in the near future.

*PRAYER POINT:*
Father, teach us to nurture and not despise Your heritage in the children placed in our care.

[9/5, 5:26 AM] 919063: Today’s SOD – 2019-09-05
TOPIC: THE DANGER OF CONSULTING OTHER gods

SCRIPTURE: Regard not them that have familiar spirits,”neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them”: I am the Lord your God. Leviticus 19:31

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Occult and witchcraft involvement is a highway to destruction.

Sometime ago,”a man testified in one of our church services about how he was invited somewhere by someone who wanted to show him how to make quick money. The place he went to did not look evil but the first thing they asked him to bring was a cock, and when he brought the cock, his father died. They demanded for the second cock and when he brought it, his mother died. He brought the third cock, and another member of his family died, but his condition remained the same – no prosperity. Then, he realized that the cocks he had taken there for sacrifice represented the members of his family and he decided to run for his life.

Beloved, occult and witchcraft involvement is a highway to destruction; it is another origin of curses. Whatever gives you an image to bow to; whatever gives you a point of contact to relate with is involving you in the occult realm. Consulting native or witch doctors and involvement with the occult invite a curse. People may tell you”: “You don’t have to come to the native doctor yourself; send us money,”let’s do something for you.” Now, that is a trap. Do not send a dime no matter how terrible the situation is because it is an invitation unto curse and destruction.

Another origin of the curse is enchantment and divination.  This is the situation where someone is limited in life by satanic enchantment. Many people are in affliction because an agent of darkness is making enchantment against them, but I decree upon your life today”: every enchantment and divination against your life and destiny is neutralized by the Blood of Jesus.

Remember this: Occult and witchcraft involvement is a highway to destruction.

ASSIGNMENT(S):

1. Refuse to consult other gods; refuse to be involved in the occult and witchcraft.

2. Repent and disconnect yourself from every form of evil.

3. Make demands on the Blood of Jesus for the termination of every spell of limitation around your life.

PRAYER: O Lord,”cause Your light to shine into my life and terminate every darkness around me. I command every spell or enchantment against my life, family and destiny to catch fire, in Jesus’ Name.

DAILY BIBLE READING: Ecclesiastes 10:1 to 12:14,”2 Corinthians 8″:1 to 15,”Psalm 49″:1 to 20,”Proverbs 22″:20 to 21

QUOTE: Sin is an attack on spirituality. And an attack on a person’s prayer life is an attack on his relationship with God. Culled from PRINCIPLES AND POWER OF PRAYER by Dr Paul Enenche.

[9/5, 5:26 AM] 919063: Know your life’s purpose

Thursday 5th September 2019

‘For this cause I was born.’ John 18:37 NKJV

Standing before Pilate, Jesus said, ‘For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth’ (John 18:37 NKJV). Jesus knew why he was born and what he was called to do, and he focused on it like a laser. And you are called to follow in his footsteps (see 1 Peter 2:21).

There are three types of people: (1) Those with no life purpose. They are drifters, aimlessly cruising through life. They go to school, get a job, switch jobs, find a spouse, switch spouses, move from house to house and place to place, retire and eventually die. They don’t really live; they just exist. (2) Those who have the wrong life purpose. They may be super achievers, people who have climbed the ladders of financial, political and social success only to find their ladder was leaning against the wrong wall. They either discovered too late or never realised that they missed a purposeful life that positively influenced others. (3) Those who have the right life purpose. They know why they were created. They know why God put them on this earth, and they are all about fulfilling that purpose. That is the life that brings a smile to the face of God. That is success that lasts. It has nothing to do with popularity, powe, or possessions. It has everything to do with purpose, because that is the only thing that brings a God-given assurance of success.

So do you know your life’s purpose? If not, ask God and he will reveal it to you.

*The Faith that we Have*

_Galatians 3:5 & 8 (NLT)_

_I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It Is becouse you believe the message you heard about Christ.

*What’s more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would declare the Gentiles to be righteous because of their faith. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, “All nations will be blessed through you.”_

There is a very big difference between what the word, ‘Faith’ means to us as believers and the general meaning to the world. The faith we have is in Jesus and of Jesus (Jesus’ kind of faith). It comes as we hear and believe the Gospel and revelation of Jesus. The faith we have actually comes from God Himself. In the Living Bible, Ephesians 2:8 says; “Because of his kindness, you have been saved through trusting Christ. And even trusting is not of yourselves; it too is a gift from God”. 2Corinthioms 5:17-18a (NLT) says, “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ”. Romans 12:3 shows us that God has ‘given’ every one of us a measure of faith. We all have a measure of the faith of Christ given to us by God Himself.

This faith comes from the gospel of Christ and it is sustained and built up by the gospel of Christ. In Romans 1:16-17, Apostle Paul said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” We cannot offord to despise or get over familiar with the gospel of Christ. Colossions 2:6-7 says, “As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.”

Prayer:
Thank God for the faith of Christ that He has given to you and receive His grace to nurture this faith with the gospel of Christ.
